Convergence

          Jenkins believed that convergence was the flow of content across multiple media platforms which was depending heavily on consumers active participation. He found that there was several categories of convergence. For example, technology, industry, culture, and social. Basically, we are taking what is popular in a specific time and using that to promote our own business. This is where all the engagement comes from. We are always looking at different medias and when something catches are eye, we immediately are interested in learning more. We are quickly realizing that technology is something we can use for everything we can think of, and it is being used more and more each day.

Long Tails and Online Consuming Segments

       The long tail model, from my understanding, shows how we are getting products. We have popular products, like some clothes that we are able to get everywhere. We can find them in walmart, target, the mall and even more. Then we have some clothing items that are more unique, maybe from a boutique or from a small-time designer. These clothes we will not be able to find at walmart, target and the mall, we will have to search hard for these clothes and most likely look online for them. This is what the long tail model represents, it shows how we have access to everything, even the more unique items because of the internet and the new technologies we have.
       A popular online consuming behavior would be a bargainer. These people are always on the hunt for the best price online. They will take time and research the product they want and compare it to other websites. Bargainers will take a longer time purchasing their product because of the long processes of finding the best price. I think that I fall into this category the most. Like we had said in class, many of these behaviors will over lap, but over all, when I am shopping for a certain item I make sure I have the best price out there. I start on the products website, then move on to third party websites like amazon or eBay. From there I will decide which website had the best price for the best product. If it is available, I will even try to use a promo-code or coupon to get even more of a discount! That is the fun, finding things you like for low prices.

Privacy Issues

We have all come to realize that we are loosing our privacy everyday on the internet. Information is just easier to come by. Although we know that, we are still putting out personal information on the internet. A big reason behind that that I have found is that more websites are requiring that personal information. We are told to type in these "basic information" to become a member or to sign in to a  website. When we do this, our information then can be used. It does seem harmless, I do it all the time, but people are afraid of where that information is going. Like the article said, internet users want to know where and how their information is being used.

      Having a personalized google search, or Facebook ads pertaining your last search can be convenient, but it also makes people feel that their privacy is invaded.  Some people do use the internet for time to research and learn about something that they may think is private to them. Unfortunately it just can't be that way. It has a lot to do with age as well. Growing up in the technology driven world you may be more comfortable entering your information online over someone older who does not know how to really use a computer well. Technology has grown so much that it will save those searches you make whether you delete your history or not. I think that this is just the beginning. Technology is only growing and so is the internet.

Amazon Drones

        Amazon has been developing a new flying drone that has the ability to fly you a package to your front door within 30 mins of a purchase order online is received. It is a drone which carries a package from the warehouse to the customer faster than ever before. This is big for the marketing and technology industry. To be able to deliver a product that quickly to a customer is game-changing. The limits to this drone technology is that it can only carry packages five pounds or less and can only be piloted within a short radius of the distribution center. This is only the beginning of what Amazon could be capable of as they strive to serve their customers economically while obtaining high satisfaction and greater marketshare. This new technology will change the way we deliver, shopping just became much easier.
        I recommended this article because it is very current to the growing technology field. It shows how far technology has gone and how far it is going to keep growing. New media and technology will never be something that stops producing. We will always have access to learning and creating new pieces of technology.

Network Laws

After reading through the three different laws, I found that I agree with the Sarnoff's Law the most. This law says that the value of a network increases linearly with the number of people on it. When you break that down it makes the most sense. The more people connected the a specific network the more valuable it becomes. If you have 100 people connected to a network and 10 connected to another, the first network will be 10 times more valuable. The more you have behind something the more important or noticed it may be. The logic behind Sarnoff's Law  was the most clear.

        Another interesting thing to think about is where we will be in 5 years. How we will be getting our information? Since the internet is expanding, it can only keep getting bigger. Searching for information will be even easier. I think we will still have computers and phones to search for new information but maybe in a new, quicker way. Also information will be given to us much differently in the education systems. Less textbooks because technology will be even more plentiful in schools. Networks will be bigger as well. There will probably be new apps to use that we can get information from that can be easily shared too.

|| Why We Blog

             Many people use blogs for different reasons. Some for information, some for opinions, and some to just express their own personal feelings. Whatever the reason is, blogging has become very popular. It is important to remember that most the time different blogs can have a certain opinion and may sway a certain way, and that is exactly what blogs are used for.
             Blogs can be very useful when one is trying to gather information about a product or about news. Hearing personal opinions or stories of those who have first hand experience makes it much easier to either understand or easier to get information when one is buying a product. Many Americans rely on personal opinion and blogs are a perfect outlet for that.
              The reading about Don and his story about his wife's illness stood out to me. In my Health Communication class I have learned how important personal stories can be during someones illness. Being able to write about what is going on can be very expressive and therapeutic to the patient and the family. In this context, blogging is very important.
