Privacy Issues

We have all come to realize that we are loosing our privacy everyday on the internet. Information is just easier to come by. Although we know that, we are still putting out personal information on the internet. A big reason behind that that I have found is that more websites are requiring that personal information. We are told to type in these "basic information" to become a member or to sign in to a  website. When we do this, our information then can be used. It does seem harmless, I do it all the time, but people are afraid of where that information is going. Like the article said, internet users want to know where and how their information is being used.

Having a personalized google search, or Facebook ads pertaining your last search can be convenient, but it also makes people feel that their privacy is invaded.  Some people do use the internet for time to research and learn about something that they may think is private to them. Unfortunately it just can't be that way. It has a lot to do with age as well. Growing up in the technology driven world you may be more comfortable entering your information online over someone older who does not know how to really use a computer well. Technology has grown so much that it will save those searches you make whether you delete your history or not. I think that this is just the beginning. Technology is only growing and so is the internet.

  1. That's very true! We subscribe and sign up to be members of different websites all the time and invariably give away our information. My email is constantly filled with spam messages or promotions from companies I've never heard of!
You also have another very good point; as our society becomes more virtual, we learn that the internet can be another way to "live our lives". Our online presence requires us to sign up for more social networks, enter in more contests, and give information to be included in different things happening online. Our fear of having our identity stolen is slowly diminishing because having an online personality is normal. Change is good but our perosnal information should remain private!

I really enjoyed this blog post but I am curious about the type of individual privacy attitude you have and do you think this issue needs more publicity?

  2. Hey Bailey, just like you I don't know what to expect for the coming years. Is it going to get worse? Maybe our personal informations will be more easily disclosed to everyone? I hope a change will be made. I believe that a law on online private information have to be created in order to restore the security of our information on the Internet.

  3. It makes sense that because we have grown up with technology, it's easier for us to trust it more in comparison to our elders. You brought up a scary point that even when you delete your history, technology still somehow saves some of the searches you make or creates suggestions based on those searches for products, etc. That honestly really scares me, not because I have something to hide, but because technology can gather all information about you from yourself and other sources and there is no way to erase anything!

  4. I agree with you about the technology driven generation. Over time it has felt normal to give out information to sites because we grew up that way. Its a norm in our society where past generations might look at us as being ignorant for giving out such information.
